In Person

Malvern Panalytical is pleased to offer this one day in-person training course at our facility in Norcross, Georgia.

Who Should Attend:
Technicians, analysts, lab managers, researchers, and anyone needing to operate and/or interpret and understand results generated from a mercury intrusion porosimeter should attend this course. The course will utilize the latest AutoPore model (AutoPore V), but most course material is also applicable to users of previous models. The course is extremely beneficial to the entry-level operator and moderately experienced users wishing to expand their capability.

Preparation:
A course packet consisting of recorded lectures and e-learning modules must be completed prior to arrival. These will be distributed by the instructors electronically one week prior. The time spent in person with our instructors will be focused on practical elements. Prior hands-on experience with the instrument is helpful but not required to attend.

Background:
The AutoPore V series provides high-quality pore volume, pore size distribution, bulk and skeletal densities, percent porosity, and estimated surface area for mesoporous and macroporous solids and powdered materials by using the mercury intrusion porosimetry technique. AutoPore is fully automated and capable of increasing the speed and efficiency of quality control analyses, with the accuracy, resolution, and data reduction, and advanced characterization and calculation features to meet most research requirements. The speed and accuracy of these instruments as well as safety features for mercury exposure and handling make it an ideal technology and an industry standard for a wide variety of applications including but not limited to catalysts, ceramics and refractories, cores and petroleum exploration, cement and concrete, battery materials, polymers, medical devices, and pharmaceuticals.

Curriculum

  • An overview of theory and principles of operation of mercury intrusion porosimetry, penetrometer design and pore volume measurement, pore size, density, porosity, and surface area calculations
  • Instrument hardware and safety features
  • Analysis modes
  • Utilization of all software features and the programming of sample files to efficiently obtain accurate and reproducible data
  • The customization and editing of all available reports and graphs, including reference and specification reports, plot overlays, data exporting, and SPC reports
  • Sample Preparation, sample loading, sample quantity and selecting the right penetrometer, as well as cleaning penetrometers at the end of analysis
  • Data review and modifications, including interstitial space modification, blank correction, and material compression
  • Advanced characterization features for studying pore structure and determination of permeability and tortuosity
  • Operator Maintenance with a member of our Service Department to discuss troubleshooting and user-maintenance

Complimentary breakfast snacks and lunch will be provided. The customer is responsible for all other costs of hotel, transportation, and additional meals outside of what is provided.

Course registration will close one week prior to the course date or as soon as the class is full. This course has limited seating, please don’t wait to register.
